What a week it was! Here's a few of my top street style looks from London Fashion Week, now grab a coffee, get your heels on & get ready for the next stop, Milan!

The heels are off after New York Fashion week, but only for a breather as London fashion week kicked off yesterday.
Oversized coats
The oversized coat was present at nearly every show, they range from broad military coats with big pockets, ankle length with tweed shoulder pads as seen at Proenza Schouler to elegant coat dresses.

Here are five of the biggest trends we can now add to our wish lists, starting with my fave :)

Wide Trousers
So this season will give our little legs a chance to breath as there were hardly any slim legged trousers to be seen. Although these might be a comfier option, it doesn't mean they are the boring option, teamed with a conversational tee will give you that edge. Karen Walker's models really know how to work these as they strut down the runway below.
I don't know what Marc Jacobs was thinking with these outfit combinations, maybe too much coffee was consumed the night before, but tucking your socks into your trousers is a big NO NO! I wont lie, I might do this at home when there's no chance on earth anyone will see me but seriously in public.....hmm....
The Suit
A lot of designers featured their own versions of the suit in their collections.Some of my favourites were The Row, Sass & Bide and Jason Wu. I don't really need to say much more on this, we can never go without a nice suit ladies.
The Turtleneck
The turtleneck has made a big comeback this season, I never thought I'd be one to even consider wearing one of these but after seeing what came out during the week I'm very tempted. There's a turtleneck out there for everyone this season as they came in so many different forms: a crop top, oversized and chunky, a long dress or to be worn under a buttoned blouse.
The Row most definitely got a thumbs up from me!
The Flared skirt
The flared skirt stole the show in New York, the two main contenders were Derek Lam with his below the knee and Proenza Schouler with his ankle length pencil skirt.

Hussies Vs Hotties
At this point in time, it would seem that Shakira & Rihanna's offering Can't remember to forget you has around 150million views on YouTube. Yes, that's a lot of views. But surely I'm not the only one who felt somewhat disappointed by the collaboration? From the song to the video, I felt let down by these 2 international pop superstars, who surely could use their powers for good. Maybe my hopes were too high, maybe the Shakira/Rihanna combo was never going to live up to the might of a Beyoncé/Shakira hook up, but something about the whole affair is downright tarty.
Yes, tarty...they have come across not as sensual & sexy but just as common hussies. I can't watch the video without thinking of 2 desperado girls in a nightclub, dancing sexy with each other, hoping to get the attention of every/any guy in the room while dressed like they belong on an episode of 'snog marry avoid'. The weird dancing against the wall and the awkwardness of the bed scene are rather cringe-worthy, and not to mention, completely predictable(the cigars, really?!). The video's director Joseph Kahn did nothing at all imaginative or clever with these two, clearly stunning women.
Now I'm sure straight men and gay women the world over probably disagree with me. That's fine. And to clarify, obviously they're both hot. It's just they are both so hot, I don't think it's necessary for them to try to hard! They don't need to.
This is wear I ask readers to take a look at what I consider an exciting moment in modern pop music history. Beyoncé and Shakira's offering from 2007, Beautiful Liar. I have heard others comment before, that Mrs Carter is the queen of sexy-not-slutty(amoung the many other things she is queen of) and I completely agree that this is Beyoncé's forte. The thing is, Beautiful Liar still contains weird wall-dancing, as well as weird lying down boarderline-interpretive-dance, but it doesn't have the try-hard cringe factor that Can't remember to forget you has.
So why doesn't it have the cringe-factor? Lets take a look. They are pretty much fully-clothed throughout for one, and yet still show off their bodies as well as their beauty. They hardly touch each other either- the dancing, the music, and the lighting have all combined to create a scene that is sexy enough- they simply don't need to stoop to that level.
Basically, I am pointing out to readers the thing that I think we can all learn from these 2 videos. Sexiness does not necessarily come from writhing around in your underwear on a bed with a phallic object in your mouth. It can be more mysterious, and shockingly LESS scantily-clad. The other clear lesson is that Beyoncé really does know how to steal a show(sorry Kelly and Michelle). She is truly the modern queen of pop, with Shakira, and, yes, even Rihanna as mere princesses.

Celebrities hit the frow at New York Fashion Week
| Celebs were out in full force last week for NYFW fall 2014. There were so many celebrity sightings that I could have included at least another 100 photo's, but I had to draw the line somewhere- especially since LFW has already kicked off! Personally, I am looking forward to the London Celeb's a little bit more, only because they are the ones who take the bigger fashion risks, and thus, divide more opinions- making them altogether more interesting than their New York friends. Having said that, Solange Knowles amongst others, provided some amazing fashion-forward looks and probably gets my vote for best dressed celeb of the week. Bonus points to Anna Kendrick for her front-row stamina- popping up at multiple shows and events, and to the Hilton sisters, for just being their class-less selves. Enjoy!  |
